1. The Minnesota State Fair. This is number one for obvious reasons: It's awesome. Any food you can imagine, placed conveniently on a stick, for your enjoyment. Also for your enjoyment: people-watching. There are more cut-off jean shorts and mullets than you could shake your food on a stick at. And this year, there was a prize-winning boar that was only 30 pounds from being the biggest ever. I went to see him after I had the chocolate covered bacon. No, I did not feel bad. I mean, look at this thing!

(As a side-note, he looks just like I felt after a day at the Fair)
2. My arm hurts. For the last month, I've been dealing with pain in my right forearm and hand that has been pissing me off like you wouldn't believe. When your job requires you to write along with the fact that you're right-handed, and said arm & hand don't work, it sucks. I finally dragged myself to the doctor and had an x-ray, Rheumatoid arthritis test, and an EMG (which was a ball of fun, what with all the needles in the arm). Test results should be back next week. I'm praying it's not something permanent, like nerve damage. So, as you can imagine, typing hasn't been going so well which has contributed to my non-blogging over the past month.
3. Preparing for a beachy wedding. My husband's best friend is getting married on a beach in a couple weeks. My husband is in the wedding, where he will be wearing a full-on tux. Again, on the BEACH. 70 degree weather makes my man sweat, so I can only imagine the sopping mess he will be after five minutes in the 90 degree beach sun. But whatever. This is really about me (of course). When a girl is invited to a beach wedding, she thinks, "OOOH, what cute sundress can I wear and what cute flip floppy shoes can I pair with it?" But since my date will be wearing a tux (on the beach), there will be no semi-informal sundress for me. So, instead of trying to find a dress during summery dress season, I waited until August when all the frickin' fall clothes were coming out. 500 dresses later, I finally found a beautiful, flowy purple number that should do just fine. I'm currently on the search for the perfect beachy but not too beachy shoes. Since I'll be trudging through sand (did I mention the wedding is on a beach?), I can't do heels. So I'm searching for the perfect balance of elegant but sand-happy. Wish me luck.
4. Has a raccoon ever made it across the road? Because seriously, I see whole families of these things smeared across the road every day. It's nasty. They need to learn to look both ways.
5. Sorry about #4. But in my defense, the title of this post is: "A Whole Lotta Random."
6. Grad parties. I had another niece and my nephew graduate this year. My niece, along with my other niece who is now a junior in college, are moving four hours away to attend college in the same town; one at a private school and the other at a University. I'm very happy for them, but I will miss them so much. My nephew will be attending community college to get some generals under his belt, then I'm sure he'll be off as well. I'm so proud of them. I also feel old. I have two more nieces still in high school, so at least I have that to hang onto.
7. The cabin re-build. I saved the biggest pain in the ass for the end. I'm so glad we are doing this and yes I know that it will be worth it in the end but OH MY GOD MY FAMILY IS DRIVING ME NUTS. A complete lack of direction from the builder coupled with a lack of communication and no designated "project manager" on my family's part has turned this into a complete mess. We've spent the last couple days doing nothing but arguing with each other, and my poor 70-year-old parents have aged about 20 years in the last month. We've been going up to the cabin just about every weekend checking on things. Last weekend, the sheetrock was on so my family decided that this weekend we would paint. As this is my designated project (as the only girl in the family, the decorating & design job is mine) (which I love), I had to go out and find paint samples, etc. last weekend and get my parents' approval. I wasn't planning on having to pick and decide colors in the span of two hours, but it HAD TO HAPPEN NOW so I made it work. The rest of the week was planning paint supplies and researching paints and all the other BS that goes along with getting a large paint job together. And then yesterday I get the word that no one is going up this weekend because they "need a break." Also, the contractor didn't think we wanted him to spray the primer even though we talked with him about that several times. Can you say "Complete rat-fuck"? Because that's what this is. Now my mom wants to paint NEXT weekend, when I have a wedding I'd like to go to. Out of six weddings this summer, I've made it to ONE because of the cabin stuff. But apparently I'm not in charge of my own project, so I will do whatever I am told. It just sucks. But everything will be fine, of course. Once this thing is finally done, we'll all have a good time. I just hope the family doesn't blow up in the meantime. I've heard about families being torn apart because of these kinds of things. My family is very close, so I hate to think about that. I'm confident we'll make it through this. We just have to keep our eye on the prize.

Go to the wedding!!! You deserve your breaks, too!!! You've organized everything -- so let the crews do the work without you.
BTW, in my neck of the woods, that's a "house" not a "cabin." Cabins are leeeeeetle, and that is beeeeeeeg. Its going to be awesome when its done!!!
Ok, I just read in the paper this morning that at the Wisconsin state fair, they have CRICKET-SPITTING contests. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell me this most-disgusting-thing-I've-ever-heard-of has not made its way into your fair state!!!!!!!!!!
Hells no, there is no cricket-spitting going on here...not that I'm aware of anyway. That is N.A.S.T.Y!
